Many Afghans feel they were the ultimate losers in a war by proxy that America waged against the Soviet Union in the 1980's using Afghan Mujahidin. After the Soviets left, many of these Mujahidin destroyed Afghanistan. Some of these Mujahidin still terrorize innocent Afghans.

We have some great people working to help improve the dire situation in Afghanistan. Sarah Chayes, Greg Mortenson and Rory Stewart are a few of these motivated individuals. While they have dedicated their lives to helping the cause of Afghanistan, a large percentage of the American public is happy to ignore the situation, or do nothing but complain.

America also has tens of thousands of soldiers risking their lives in Afghanistan. Many of them have been touched by the incredible poverty of the country. They are anxious to help the lives of those they interact with. They see a large slice of humanity which needs our help.

While our government seems rather clueless on what needs to be done in Afghanistan, dedicated civilians, as well as military officers in the field, offer much wisdom and insight into what is needed to save Afghanistan.
